David Pruhs

David Pruhs is the retired Family Court Commissioner for Milwaukee County, where he served for 24 years. His career has been dedicated to assisting families and strengthening the family justice system. He now uses his experience and legal expertise to assist families in resolving issues efficiently and creatively by providing high-quality family law mediation services.

David provides mediation in cases where the parties are represented by attorneys and need the assistance of a mediator to facilitate an agreement to avoid the cost and conflict of court litigation. He also assists self-represented couples directly to help them navigate separation and divorce with a positive focus on their family, including the option of a no-court Divorce by Affidavit. David will utilize his fluency in Spanish to provide bilingual mediation.

David’s career reflects his longstanding commitment to ensuring that families are treated with dignity, respect, and access to meaningful justice. Prior to his appointment as Family Court Commissioner, David co-founded Centro Legal, a not-for-profit organization established to help address the legal needs of low-income individuals and families in the community.

David served as Executive Director of the Wisconsin Family Court Commissioners Association, providing leadership and advocacy on issues affecting family court and the administration of family law throughout the state. Upon retirement, he was recognized by County Proclamation for “his dedicated service, leadership, and invaluable contributions to Milwaukee County … and for the positive and enduring impact he has made.“  He was recently named the Wisconsin Child Support Enforcement Association judicial officer of the year.

Throughout his career, David has been dedicated to improving the lives of children and families. He continues that commitment as a family law mediator at Hansen and Hildebrand S.C.
